Ralph McQuarrie (1929 - 2012)

We are very saddened to report the passing of artist Ralph McQuarrie, who was a key figure in the creation of the Star Wars universe as we know it. McQuarrie died aged 82 on March 3, in his Berkeley, California home. George Lucas has said of McQuarrie: "His genial contribution, in the form of unequalled production paintings, propelled and inspired all of the cast and crew of the original Star Wars trilogy. When words could not convey my ideas, I could always point to one of Ralph's fabulous illustrations and say, 'do it like this'." He will be missed and forever appreciated by fans of Star Wars and several other film productions he was involved in.
